Mother Nature has lovingly wrapped this refuge so that it rests beneath the thick blanket of snow. Travelling through snow-covered winter forests. Feel the pulse of life on skis. The Alpbachtal, also known as the “Jewel of the Alps”, offers ski tourers a perfect combination of idyllic mountain scenery and excellent ski touring opportunities. The region stretches from the charming village of Alpbach to the impressive Schatzberg in Wildschönau, offering a diverse selection of ski tours. A highlight of the Alpbachtal is the Schatzberg and our favourite ski tour.

Ski tours around the Hygna Chalets

Our insider tip in the Alpbachtal with only 1,000 metres in altitude and a wonderful panorama, starting right on our doorstep. The route leads uphill across the meadows in the Neader district, bypassing a larger forest belt in a right-hand bend to reach the Zulehenhof and then the Hechenblaikenhof. The ski tour continues slightly to the left along the track to the Hechenblaikenalm, 1396 m, and the Wildsauhütte (only open in summer). Turn sharp left there, briefly follow a forest path, then up through sparse forest to an open area and to the left of the ridge to the highest point, the Loderstein (1,830 m). For the descent, we recommend taking the same route as for the ascent.

Mostly groomed! You will be rewarded with a small summit cross and a magnificent view of the Alpbachtal, Inntal and Zillertal valleys!

Duration: 2.5 hours

Difficulty level: medium

Ascent via the off-piste ski route, descent via groomed pistes.

A popular ski tour in the Kitzbühel Alps

If you don’t feel confident enough in off-piste terrain or if there is not enough snow in the area, this ski tour is for you. Here you can enjoy the advantage of a ski trail for the ascent and groomed pistes for the descent. The starting point for this tour is in Inneralpbach, right next to the valley station of the Pöglbahn cable car or at the car park next to the former Leitner inn in Greiter Graben. From there, the tour leads across the fields, slightly uphill, to a clearing in the forest (ski route). The route then winds its way uphill. After about an hour you reach the Moserbaumgartenalm. Just above the hut, the forest belt ends and you reach open terrain, from where you ascend to the left of the chairlift to the “Top of Alpbachtal”. From the Wiedersbergerhorn Hütte (2025 m; usually you leave your skis there), you have the option of walking along the mostly blown-up ridge to the summit (2127 m). The return is the same as the ascent. From the Hornbahn 2000 mountain station, you can also use the extensive ski area for the descent to Inneralpbach/direction Pöglbahn valley station.
